Explaining that IPE is an effective way to address community healthcare needs is vital to gaining collaborative response to integration of IPE use (Webb et al, 2023). I am proud to say that university that I work for does a great job at integrating IPE. Simply talking to our students, we found that many of them could not tell us what the role of a social worker included. Even more could not tell us the difference between a nurse practitioner (NP) and physician’s assistant (PA). So, a team that consisted of NPs, PAs, social workers, public health, and nurses got together to work on a IPE video case study simulation. The students that were required to participate were students enrolled in a master’s degree in either of these tracks. This was an exceptional experience for me and my students. Even I learned more about the roles of other members of the interprofessional team. While this was an amazing experience, I would use more simulation as way to integrate IPE in the prelicensure courses. Currently at the college of nursing I work for, all courses with a lab or clinical attached are required to have some form of a simulation event. Integrating more of a collaborative approach to simulation-based learning promotes teamwork and a positive approach to cooperation and learning (Ali Khalafi et al, 2023).
