Summarize the responsibilities of the school nurse/ school health services.

You learned in Week 1 the definition of community health nursing: Community health nursing: a term often interchanged with public health nursing or nursing practice in the community, with the primary focus on the health care of a community and the effect of the community health status on individuals, families and groups. The goal is to preserve protect, promote, or maintain health. How does the school nurse role fulfill this definition? 

You are the Nurse working in the Islander school district.  On an annual basis, they have a “Kindergarten Round-Up” program with the local Health Department to help facilitate the process of ensuring that all children are prepared to enter school in the fall.  As part of this endeavor, you are asked to make sure that all parents receive information and are linked to available resources well in advance.  You are to help build the school district’s webpage.  What are some health topics that would be of key importance for the district’s parents to have?  What kind of health information do you think the parents of new Kindergarteners need?
