For this paper, your group is to assume that you are 86 years old. The only income you have is your social security, which is $1000 per month. You do not have money in savings. Your spouse just died, and you live all alone. You want to stay in the home that you have lived in for the last 40 years which is the old family home place in a rural area. The home is paid off. You have Medicare and your son is currently paying for a supplemental insurance to help cover the expenses that Medicare does not cover such as medications. There are five steps into the house. You have problems getting around and are frequently short of breath, you have to use a walker, the hallways are narrow, the doorways are small, it is difficult to get into the bathroom and you are not able to drive. The bedroom is upstairs. You have glasses, but your vision is not good. You have one son who is married and lives out of state, which is 12 hours away. You have a past medical history of hypertension. Your cellphone, cable, and internet are bundled together to keep the cost down at $90. Per month. You are in pretty good health and only have to see the provider of care every six months.
