                               The Interview

Breast Cancer is cancer that forms in the cells of the breasts.

Breast cancer can occur in women and rarely in men.

Breast cancer is a type of cancer that starts in the breast. It can start in one or both breasts.

In a recent interview, we had with Mrs. Denise Gustave who experienced breast cancer twice, she entrusted us with a lot of information concerning her journey throughout breast cancer. She described her experience as life-changing.

Her first diagnosis was in 2010 with stage two breast cancer. She was in remission for the last ten years, then last year cancer came back. She mentioned that the disorder has changed her whole life including the negative impact on her family and her job. She also pointed out that the first diagnosis brought fears in the family, however, they managed. But it’s different the second time. Now they all developed disorders due to the stress of the disease. Her teenagers are on medications for panic attacks and anxiety and she has more than 7 prescriptions for other disorders related to cancer.

She stated that It’s been almost two years since she quit her job because she is incapable of doing her daily routine as she used to. Even at home, her family has to help her with some of her ADLs. After the second diagnosis, she had a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and medications and soon she will start radiation therapy. She also added that she is having a hard time coping with the side effects of the treatment. She has developed mental disorders such as hallucinations, hair loss, and hyperpigmentation of the tongue, soles, and palm. Anxiety, fearsome, vomiting, and bloating.

She continued to explain that Having to deal with a double mastectomy took a toll on her body especially hers was malpractice, so they had to take some part of her body to expand the elasticity of the skin by the lymph nodes areas which they removed and make it very difficult to reach, get dressed or undressed. She said and I quote: this disorder destroyed me mentally and emotionally. Having breast cancer twice makes me live in constant fear. My mood shifts periodically, I am living in pain but I have to put a strong front for my children. Vividly I can see the fear in my husband’s face every time that he looks at me. I will be fine because I am a fighter. She also said that she is seeing a psychiatrist, she is taking acupuncture massage twice a month and taking yoga class as well.
