Because physicians on an independent, self-governing medical staff cannot be directly controlled, the usual labor-management mechanisms are not available. Analyze the implications for collaboration between some other groups of professionals, such as nurses and pharmacists who are employed by hospitals, and the medical staff.
As physicians migrate toward group practice, medical homes and ACOs, analyze what public policies, social norms or other approaches would encourage greater participation and engagement by physicians and give an example from your own practice.
