Alex Brooks- Hockey Injury

Alex Brooks, 24-yo male – arrived ambulatory via private car to ER c/o laceration to right side of forehead due to being hit with a hockey puck while playing ice hockey. He admits to wearing a helmet but no face mask. He doesn’t think he blacked-out but not entirely certain. A team-mate that brought Alex to the ER believes Alex did have a brief loss of consciousnesses. The ER physician assesses and sutures the laceration, 7-sutures. The physician explained to Alex that these stitches need to be removed in 7-10 days.

As the nurse caring for Alex it’s your responsibility to ensure he has the appropriate discharge education instructions before leaving the ER. Please describe one (1) piece of discharge information/education you will explain to Alex (and his team-mate). This could include any S&S for Alex to watch for R/T his suture site; personal hygiene; pain control; etc. Think Critically as Alex’ injuries go beyond just a laceration/sutures.

Please describe different discharge instructions
