This article analyzed how communication occurs during handovers. Nurses were trained in how to communicate information by utilizing CARE and ISBAR tools during a bedside shift report. The goal of this article is to be inclusive and provide patient-centered care resulting in meaningful interaction between patients and nurses. Champions in the unit were utilized for a more successful practice of communication and implementation of this initiative. This study concluded the impact of patient safety, quality of care, and satisfaction by both patients and staff due to their participation. Â

This article analyzed patient satisfaction based on the perspective of patients. The aspects that were viewed based on the patient response that influenced success are the skills utilized by staff, rapport built between patient and staff, self-awareness, accountability, and support. Patient’s viewed consistency and expectation of treatment and education resulted in patient satisfaction. This study concluded that patient satisfaction influences the quality of care achieved by building a relationship between staff and patients, and patient involvement in their care allows for patient-centered care.Â
