For this task you will consider yourself as an employee at Sunnyside Community Centre. Your role is as a Community Support caseworker. In this role you meet with people to help them in planning the supports and strategies they may need to address issues in their life. These people may be referred to the centre from a range of health and community services. The centre runs a number of programs for Families, Youth and Community members that may be suitable for the people you meet with.

CLIENT 1:
Carol is an 18 year old single secondary school graduate who has completed one year of university. Carol was a good student, hardworking and shy with several friends and dates occasionally. Carol has used cannabis at times. During her first year in university Carol began to experience auditory hallucinations and delusions. She began to act in bizarre ways and withdrew from people.
She was recently hospitalised for one month and was diagnosed with schizophrenia and dropped out of university. Carol lives with her parents and her two younger siblings. Her family are supportive of her emotionally and financially. Her mother. June, is her main carer and she has requested (with Carol’s approval) for Carol to be assessed for support.

CLIENT 2:
Juliette is a 38 – year-old mother of three children aged five, eight and ten years. She was divorced three years ago and since then her life has gone downhill. She drinks alcohol every day and takes drugs at parties. Her mother looks after her children when she is not there; however, she has warned she has almost had enough.
Juliette has recently developed anxiety attacks that cause her to hyperventilate and feel unable to move. She knows that her alcohol and drug use is starting to impact on her life. She has come to where you work for help and support.

CLIENT 3:

Paul is a 27 year old client with alcohol dependency and depression, who sometimes becomes violent when he has been drinking. Paul has recently lost his job and he is threatened with homelessness if he can’t get another job or financial assistance urgently. Paul’s drinking and depression began soon after his mother died the previous year and led to a breakup with his partner.Â
