The achiever theme describes my drive for some form of achievement daily. The maximizer theme endorses my desire for excellence in everything I do (Gallup, 2022). The discipline theme expresses my need for things to be orderly and planned, fulfilling a need for control and establishing routine and structure (Gallup, 2022). I think more clearly when I finish assignments well ahead of schedule and am well prepared for an exam. I also strategically plan every week, ensuring I have allotted enough time for everything I must complete. This need for control should be understood as my method for ensuring progress in the face of life’s distractions (Gallup, 2022). The competition theme denotes my awareness of others’ performance levels (Gallup, 2022). I find fulfillment in winning. Lastly, my theme of consistency demonstrates my need to treat people equally no matter where they are in their life (Gallup, 2022). I believe in abiding by regulations, and nobody should have the upper hand in any situation. The Strengths Finder assessment is accurate; I acknowledge my need and desire for structure, order, equality, and success. I can use my knowledge of these talents to build my strengths and promote success in my future (Gallup, 2022). The traits of a successful leader include self-discipline, decision-making, loyalty, and teamwork (Developing leaders, 2018). Two core values I would like to strengthen are my desire for excellence and equality. My need for excellence may exhaust others. I need to accept that sometimes “good enough” is adequate. I also need to find satisfaction in projects that fall short of my definition of excellence. I must be sure not to let my competitiveness get in the way of relationships, as this could hurt feelings. I also need to maintain integrity and principles when working towards goals. I need to treat everybody the same; however, I need to remember that no two people are the same, and I need to remember that different things motivate different people. Also, rigid rules may not be practical in all settings. I need to work on being more flexible. Acknowledging this will help me become a more effective leader. Strengths I would like to improve are my goal-setting skills, an affinity for empowering others, and competition strength. I can maximize my strengths by setting goals, celebrating successes before moving on to the next task, limiting commitments, and taking breaks. I can maximize my theme of maximizer by empowering others and groups to realize their strengths and full potential. Transformational leaders influence others through heightened expectations toward a desired goal (Broome & Marshall, 2021). I hold myself to a high-performance standard and can harness that ability to motivate others. I could raise individual or group achievement levels by creating a culture of striving for the best. Because I am a competitive person and enjoy winning, I must find satisfaction in tasks that I may not be the most adept at to become more well-rounded. I can use my competition skills to improve my ability to perform those tasks. Leaders must know how to build relationships, deal with emotions, empower and motivate employees, enhance the work environment, and foster a sense of value in each employee (Prufeta, 2017). Characteristics I would like to strengthen are my emotional intelligence, my judgment of others’ performance, and my controlling nature. The achiever theme makes me prone to get frustrated when others do not work as hard as I do. In a leadership position, others may find this too demanding. I have to be willing to accept different work ethics and embrace the positive qualities in everybody. Additionally, my characteristic of a need for daily achievement and taking on things because I think I am the only one that can get things done correctly could become a significant weakness lending itself to burnout. I have to be willing to let go and let others fly. I also must consider time and resources and overextending myself when taking on new projects. Because of my need for routine and structure, others may find me rigid and inflexible. I should be more spontaneous and find ways to fit in events that were not previously scheduled. I need to make room for innovative processes and not hinder others’ abilities through my personal need for structure. References Broome, M., & Marshall, E. S. (2021).
