Plan a learning experience that will focus on an exploration of pattern for a single child aged between 24 – 36 months (focus child) using the attached Learning Experience Plan When planning your experience, you will need to include: – Resources related to patterns. Patterns may be found in fabric; gift wrapping paper; patchwork quilting pictures; prints or art works; tiles; packaging; animal prints; items from nature (shells, leaves etc.); music or other man made patterned objects. – At least one opportunity for children to notice, explore and discuss patterns. Explain how you will introduce patterns and what patterns are, with the children. Think about the language you will use and concepts/ideas you will promote to foster children’s learning about patterns e.g. Line – curved or straight – diagonal, horizontal, zig-zag or vertical. Colour – Bright, dull, vibrant etc. Pattern – random and/or repeat An opportunity for the children to create their own patterns using visual arts or other appropriate materials (e.g. sand, natural items etc.) i.e. creating patterns using paints/pencils; creating patterns in sand; creating patterns with beads; creating patterns with shapes; creating patterns in play dough.
