When a new patient comes into the medical office for an examination, the receptionist/MA must obtain the mandatory new patient information. These pieces of information include the patient’s information (personal and demographic), insurance information, assignment of benefits consent, authorization to release information to insurance, and agreements to pay costs that insurance doesn’t cover, all of the patient’s information is then entered into the office practice management system. The patient’s insurance card is typically photocopied and saved and stored in their EHR. After the initial visit, patient check-in is a much simpler process.
