Proof reading and edit the body of my essay. Summarize in a 3 – 4 page paper. how you have evolved as a nurse though the participation in this course, and how your new knowledge has allowed you to achieved the learning outcome of the course. Select an outcome or outcomes and pull it all together focusing on how pathophysiology of a disease and pharmacological properties work together to treat disease processes. Pharmacology is an expansive subject ranging from understanding how drugs are administered to where they travel in the body to the actual responses produced (). Through my readings, I had the chance to learn more about some drugs, their functions, and nursing interventions appropriate to each one of them. For example, I never knew that Atorvastatin (Lipitor), a prescription very common for lipid disorders, can cause constipation and diarrhea until I read about it for citing this one only. Thus, these symptoms will be on the list of questions I often fail to ask or analyze to help a patient better. In my workplace last week, I finally put it together based on the new pieces of information acquired from readings to help one of my patients. I understood why this patient always complained of stomach discomfort and constipation followed by a large, loose bowel movement. This patient not only doesn’t like doing exercise and getting out of bed, but she is a long-term use of a high dose of Lipitor. To alleviate her symptoms, instead of taking it only in the evening as I was taught in school, I discussed with the doctor about changing the schedule for a morning dose with breakfast. According to the patient, this change helped reduce her GI discomfort. Part of my teaching will be not only based on adverse reactions to look for but also on what to include in their diet to prevent those side effects for any individual starting on this medication. One of the most important things I have learned is that pathophysiology and pharmacology are two sides of the same coin. In order to effectively treat a disease, it is essential to understand the changes that occur in the body as a result of the disease and how drugs interact with the body to treat the condition. During this course, we had a chance to work on case studies and create care plan outlines based on symptoms, diagnostic test results, and medical history. The accomplishment of these work studies helped me understand another part of nursing that is crucial. Also, it helps me anticipate care and use critical thinking more when assessing and creating patient care plans. Study shows that this method of learning help students has an in-depth understanding of the material. As a nurse working in a subacute unit, I get all kinds of patients, and sometimes it can be challenging to elaborate the care plan and interventions to help or treat symptoms of certain diseases. After completing this course, I feel more confident in analyzing all aspects of the patient history to develop interventions to meet projected goals. I have already started implementing some of my new knowledge in providing care by creating an outline of some of my critical patients to assist them better and keep them safe.
