reply to these two discussions 1-medical practitioners
reply to these two discussions 1-medical practitioners profited off of consulting agreements with drug and device maker companies. Following this week’s reading, I have come to the decision that researchers demanding profitable consulting agreements or getting lucrative consulting agreements are not ethicallycorrectt. The main focus of medical practitioners should be their patients. I feel that with the researchers taking money from drug companies their primary allegiance would be to the drug companies. Making the drug companies look good regardless of whether their drug is helpful or harmful. If the researchers decide to demand a profit for consulting agreements there should be a limit to how much they can demand. That way no one researcher is profiting more than the other. This case study connects to the Belmont Principle of beneficence or rather the lack of beneficence. Beneficence is physicians maximize possible benefits while minimizing possible harm to patients and the larger society. As the book states “against the rigors of a pressured practice, beneficence still reminds the physician of the original ‘”call” to medicine— “the desire to make a difference in people’s lives and the alleviation of pain and suffering”(pg.82). This quote is conveying that the principle of beneficence is there to remind our medical practitioners of the main purpose of being a doctor which is to aid their patients. With that being said I feel that the researchers were looking out for their best interest of themselves, seeing how much they could get from drug companies. 2-I strongly disagree with the compensation of consultation agreements and consulting fees. I think consulting fees for consulting agreements is a huge raise for concern. I think that money can be a huge issue in this case and cause a lot of harm, damage, injury, or death. The payment of consultation fees is cause for concern because it may lead to consultation of the specific drug when not necessary, it could spread falsified information, and many more things could go on in order to get paid for the consultation process. I feel as though others may abuse the chance to be compensated for such a service and take advantage. Medical professionals may seek compensation before the safety of the patient. This also may cloud the judgment of medical professionals and lead them to making poor decisions with compensation in mind. I think there is a safe way to go about payment for consultation if the intervention was executed and successful. I feel as though the intervention being successful is extremely important and can prevent both parties from possibly doing something dangerous. This may prevent the unnecessary recommendation or interventions from medical professionals and allow them to think more clearly.
