Although the services are provided, and the resources are presumed available, there is a lower rate of patients in the communities receiving prenatal and reproductive care services. Research Purpose: To examine what are the driving forces behind the barriers if any, that allow such low and poor outcomes in this community. I would like to investigate the reasons such communities are not producing the expected performance rates for prenatal and reproductive care services. With the provided resources in Brooklyn, NY. Investigating whether the problem is a lack of access, or can it be a lack of outreach. I would like to examine if the problem is an issue questioning the lack of access to qualified services, cultural, or knowledge-based. Research : The lack of prenatal and reproductive care received in lower socioeconomic and migrant communities continues to produce undesired and below-standard outcomes. Although the resources are present and the providers are willing in the East Flatbush district 40 community, what is the driving force behind the lack of prenatal and reproductive services received in such communities in a timely manner, and what are ways that this can be addressed? Variables: The independent variables of this study are the access to care facilities and the way that the care is provided. The dependent variables are the current prenatal patients receiving care and what is the barrier or barriers that are causing such low production of patients seeking prenatal care, in comparison to other communities. The extraneous variables are geographic; this study will focus only on the district 40 community grouping the patients collectively. This will allow oversight of this district as a whole, as opposed to the complete Brooklyn community or considering neighboring districts that may consist of a strong presence of a particular cultural influence. This would cause the results to be swayed by cultural influences. Descriptive Qualitative Research Design: The district 40 community of East Flatbush has two major hospitals in Brooklyn, NY. Along with many other hospitals, clinics, and private practices. With the state hospital SUNY Downstate Medical Center and the Brooklyn Free Clinic, and the city hospital, Kings County Hospital the prenatal clinics should be flooded with patients all the time. The variables of this research make this a qualitative study. We are aware that the facilities are available with practitioners ready to provide service. Investigating the quality of care received by prenatal patients as well as accessible clinical sites maintains priority in this study. This research will focus on factors such as cultural and or possible educational barriers. Considering language barriers as a possible barrier as well. This information would allow access to creating pathways that can possibly encourage positive outcomes of prenatal care for this local community. The reason my research is set up this way is that the patients decide their care. This care that is provided to the patient must first be respectable, available as well as accessible. In this research, I would like to ask the pregnant women, clinic staff, and community leaders if possible in the District 40 community what are some of the causes of such low production of prenatal care in this community. A short survey with no more than 10 questions investigating what are some possible determining factors that are producing such poor outcomes in this community will be distributed at two clinics in the East Flatbush district 40 community, followed by a survey on Survey Monkey to gauge the general feeling of this community and address the closable gaps in care.
