The newsletter that I chose is titled “Employers Are Concerned about Covering Workers’ Mental Health Needs, Survey Finds” (Andrews, 2022.) The main points that were talked about in this article included: The effect that COVID-19 had on individuals’ mental health. How the demand for health care providers has increased so much however, access to mental health care providers is very difficult. Employers adding mental health care providers to their network so that their employees can get the help that they need. This article relates to health policy because it is crucial that people get the help that they need when it comes to their mental health. It is time that employers start to make mental health a priority so that their employees can get help. I chose this article because this is something that I have seen a lot more since the COVID-19 pandemic. I think that being on lockdown and having to stay inside for months had a serious effect on people’s mental health. The pandemic has made a huge impact on nurses especially those who worked with covid patients because this disease had killed so many people. Nurses put themselves as well as their families lives at risk by making the decision to go into work everyday and taking care of covid patients. Although these nurses are looked at as heroes, it also had a huge impact on their mental health as well. I believe that we need to bring more awareness to this and make it a priority to provide these individuals help. Something that is not included in the article which is important to know is what mental health issues have increased since the pandemic. For example, are rates of depression increasing or is it more of people have turned to alcohol/drug abuse since the pandemic? It is important to know this type of information so that we can figure out solutions on how to fix it.
