Community health nurses focus on the health
Community health nurses focus on the health and well-being of a community or population. They especially play an important role in providing treatment to patients that may not have easy access to healthcare. They are able to reach patients in schools, hospitals, community centers and more. By utilizing the nursing process, community health nurses are able to assess the health needs of a community and work with community stakeholders to provide care and the resources that are needed (Green, 2018). Understanding the stakeholder’s needs and interests and partnering with them in programs will benefit the evaluation and the passing and implementation of new healthcare programs within the community (CDC, 2018). They do this by educating the community on different diseases and ways to maintain their health in order to decrease the occurrence of diseases and deaths. We’ve seen this more than we think we have. We’ve seen posters in public bathrooms showing the proper ways to wash hands or in train stations where refraining from smoking is encouraged to decrease the risk of lung and cardiac diseases. Community health nurses are able to use resources from the community to assist with providing care for patients. Working together with different stakeholders in the community is important because it allows these nurses to have more access to people in the community to provide education and treatment. For example, having health screenings at a local church, administering immunizations at a local school or even having educational assemblies at a park. Community health nurses try to reach as many community areas as possible to promote population health.
