I need help contributing to the below discussion post: McAuley was so insightful and able to recognize nursing is not an independent job. Even then, it took developing trusting relationships and teamwork to provide care to the sick. In healthcare today, interprofessional collaboration is an expectation and is known to provide better patient outcomes when all disciplines work together. Implementing interdisciplinary rounds in acute care settings has become a standard in many facilities, allowing all team members to collaborate and develop the best patient plan. Being a nurse for 50 years I remember before this was an expectation and how and uncertain a patient’s plan of care was. Without teamwork, healthcare and nursing would not be in the place it is today. As nurses, we expect teamwork and trusting relationships from our coworkers.
