Case Study 2 A 44-year-old woman, who has a past history of breast cancer and has been cancer-free for five years, goes to her PCP with a complaint of back pain. She had been skiing and fell the weekend before. The PCP examines her and refers her to a DO for manipulation. She has six visits with the DO with no relief. She returns to the PCP with the same complaint of back pain. The PCP examines her and gives her a prescription of pain medication. A week later the patient goes to the ED for severe back pain. The ED does an MRI and sends the results to both the PCP and her oncologist. Neither the PCP nor the oncologist pay any attention to the report, thinking that the other will review and take action if needed.
