What are the cultural, psychological, and spiritual implications for this patient? 2. Discuss health promotion and disease prevention as it applies to the individual. Discuss a minimum of two health promotion topics with this patient. In every population around the world, people perceive sickness differently. In this scenario, the patient is diabetic and hypertensive, but her lifestyle is not compliant with her health. Many aspects of her life choices, such as cultural, psychological, and spiritual, have significant implications for her health. This essay will discuss the implications and some health promotion and prevention that can help the patient maintain decent health. Cultural implication This 89-year-old lady has a strong family bond and believes in God, which means she likes that her family is with her. She shares that she likes to smoke at family gatherings, eats foods that are not good for her health, and smokes. These habits are bad for her health, making her vulnerable to complications that could have been avoided. Another cultural implication is that she is probably not taking her medications regularly as she should and also taking natural remedies. She is drinking half a bottle of wine and worries about her family. Stress and alcohol consumption are two things that are not suitable for her due to her medical conditions. Psychological impact In this case, family support is very important. Her family is by her side at the hospital and provides the emotional support she needs to cope with these symptoms. She strongly believes in God, and her whole family is there praying. Psychologically, this environment helps her stay positive because of the feeling that she is not alone. She knows they will probably participate in making decisions regarding her well-being plays a crucial role in her recovery. Holistic care is essential for patients, and emotional support is one key element for positive outcomes. Spiritual The spiritual implication, in this case, is that she believes that God will take care of her. Her belief can affect her care positively and negatively. Negatively she might need help understanding some decisions that the healthcare team is making regarding medication and prevention to keep her healthy. For example, she might prefer food from home that is unhealthy for her to the one given to her at the hospital. The positive impact spiritually is that as she believes in God, her faith will be a great source of strength during this time of sickness. Also, her whole family wears the symbol of faith, that is, the cross, which for Christians represents Jesus’ sacrifices for us sinners; this also is a source of comfort that His power can heal her. I can relay to that because as a Christian, even though I am a nurse, I believe in the power of God, and I would love for my family to pray during this time. Some health promotions applied to the individual are, first, quitting smoking or reduce the to prevent cancer, lung, and heart diseases. Secondly, exercising regularly to keep or maintain a healthy weight because a sedentary lifestyle can lead to diseases like diabetes and obesity. Also, eating a healthy diet is crucial to maintaining a healthy weight and glucose levels. Some individuals don’t realize how bad eating habits can cause damage to the body and health. Limiting alcohol intake is important because it can reduce health issues such as cirrhosis and liver problems. Another important health promotion is getting adequate sleep; sleep deprivation impacts mood causes anxiety disorder, and increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes (Adams et al., 2017). Two of these health promotion topics above will be discussed with the patient based on her condition: quitting smoking and eating healthy. As a 69-year-old female, quitting smoking would benefit her health. It will reduce her chance of developing heart disease, stroke, lung disease, and cancer. There are many resources to help smokers, some of which would be presented to the patient, such as nicotine replacement, support groups, and counseling. Another teaching the patient needs is eating a healthy diet; as a person with diabetes, she reported eating lots of sweets, and uncontrolled diabetes can lead to artery problems, heart disease, stroke, and blindness. These life-changing habits are important for this patient because she is already at risk of developing all these health complicated issues due to her medical condition and lifestyle. Therefore, managing her diabetes and her blood pressure by following a healthy diet, exercising, and having regular checkups with her provider is crucial. SCIENCE HEALTH SCIENCE NURSING NUR 3330
