Reply to these two discussions 1-Holistic care
Reply to these two discussions 1-Holistic care is caring for the whole person, which means providing them with physical, mental, spiritual, and social needs. Madonna emphasized this concept throughout the ABSN program, and this also carried over into my clinical settings, and even at my own job as a nurse intern. I always love to sit and talk with my patients and get to know them as best as I can, within the time frame that I have. One of my biggest concerns is always the stress level of my patient. I am always assessing this, because even though stress might not be seen as something to treat on the outside, when approaching patients holistically, understanding that stress does affect one’s overall health, and being unwell in this category (mentally), means that it is also affects other categories. One specific experience that I had on my first day of MedSurg 2 clinical was with a patient who was in the hospital for hypertension. He was only 32, but was experiencing very high blood pressure readings, which he had never experienced before. All his tests, labs and screens came back normal, so there was not much more the hospital had planned to do, so after the doctor was going to make his final rounds, he was going to be discharged. With him being my only patient, I sat and spoke with him for a bit. After doing this I found out that he was a pastor who carried a lot of stress because he was constantly trying to help others and took on the stress levels of others. This would also be a factor for his hypertension. This proves the importance of approaching the patient in a holistic manner. 2-As my time in the ABSN program concludes, I would like to reflect on some important outcomes I have met. One core outcome I have met is what it means to have professionalism. When it comes to professionalism one of the main aspects involves dignity and respect for others. Throughout this program, we have learned to pay attention to and respect the opinions and decisions of our patients and their families. In the assessment, planning, provision, and evaluation of the care we offer, we take into account the knowledge, values, beliefs, and cultures of patients and their families. Caring for patients, families, visitors, co-workers, and colleagues with minds, hands, and hearts is the art of nursing. In addition to that, we interact with patients and families promptly and provide information in clear language so they can choose the best course of treatment that satisfies their needs. We assist in the creation and application of electronic tools and systems that give patients immediate access to their medical information, their medical team, and health-promoting instruction and information. In addition to this, we have also learned what it means to provide holistic care in nursing. In the context of medicine, the phrase “holistic” denotes “the treatment of the complete person, taking into consideration mental and social variables, rather than merely the symptoms of a disease.” An approach to healthcare known as holistic care takes the patient’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs into account.
