What do you think are the contributing
What do you think are the contributing factors to the underrepresentation, especially in fields like computing and engineering? Black and Hispanic workers remain underrepresented compared with the share of all workers (Fry, etl, 2021). Black and Hispanic adults are less likely to earn degrees in STEM than other degree fields. Why? Is the educational system designed in a manner that does not promote/encourage participation of minorities in the STEM fields? Women are also underrepresented in the fields of computing, physical sciences, and engineering (Fry, etl, 2021). Is the perception that minorities versus white/majority counterparts are inherently at a different place on the infamous Bell Curve? What if a teacher feels the Bell Curve is the predominant predictor of success? While Black and Hispanic students earn 7% and 12% respectively of bachelor degrees in STEM fields, Asian and White students remain “overrepresented” among STEM college graduates. Women earned 22% of STEM degrees in 2018 (Fry, etl, 2021). WHY?????? If YOU were responsible for devising solutions to address this issue, where would you begin? What are the major factors, in your eyesight that informs such dismal statistics? SCIENCE HEALTH SCIENCE NURSING ECS 585
