As a nurse researcher, you are interested in the factors
This is my classmate’s discussion and I need to respond in 2 paragraphs with one peer-reviewed article within 8 years State what your design will be and what methods you will be using. Identify the potential threats to the design you have chosen for your project. (MO 1,2) For my paper, I will be using a qualitative research design. A qualitative research design focuses on exploring, explaining, and developing a deep understanding of specific phenomena (Marshall, 2020). A qualitative research design is appropriate for my paper topic because I am looking to explore discharge interventions that will reduce 30-day readmissions rates for patients 65 years of age and older with heart failure. The increased readmission rate for this population continues to be a problem, so by conducting qualitative research, I hope to find patterns to identify possible explanatory factors. The methods I will use for my research paper are document study/analysis, interviews and focus groups. Document study refers to the review by the researcher of written materials which includes annual reports, guidelines, and policy documents (Busetto, 2020). For my research paper, I plan to use document studies to identify annual reports on the 30-day readmissions rates for this population and the current guidelines and polices in place. Interviews give insight into a person’s subjective experience, opinions, and motivations (Busetto, 2020). Utilizing interviews will allow me to understand this population’s current experience with heart failure while providing potential motivations in reducing readmission rates. Lastly, focus groups explore participants’ expertise and experiences which include how and why people behave in certain ways (Busetto, 2020). Focus groups can help highlight patterned behaviors and help to identify possible explanatory factors into why readmission rates continue to occur for this population. Potential threats to the qualitative research design includes the validity and reliability of the data. In a qualitative study, once the data is collected, the researchers must facilitate coding of groups for analysis (Marshall, 2020). During the analysis process, the researcher must be aware of the risk for bias, validity, and reliability. To assess reliability, the researcher should assess their measurement instrument prior to gathering data using the reliability coefficient (Marshall, 2020). Additionally, validity measures the extent to which the instrument measures what it purports to measure (Marshall, 2020). To avoid potential threats, I will assess both the validity and reliability of my data prior to and throughout my research. Reference Busetto, L., Wick, W., & Gumbinger, C. (2020).
