Case scenario 3: Miriam – Follow-up phone call Task 3:
1. What health behavior does an important person in your life (parent, significant other, best friend, etc.) want to change? 2. What stage is this person in? 3. What important processes of change can you suggest at this stage and the surrounding stages? Lastly, be sure to answer the following question in your initial post: Going forward, how will you plan to incorporate the theory “Transtheoretical Model (TTM)” into your general understanding of health behaviors? Please explain, include some specifics, and share. *****Replay to other students post: student #1: I interviewed my friend Luisa, and the behavior change she’s looking into incorporate into her life is to go back to lift at the gym for at least 3 times a week. She had this habit a year ago but after she moved for college her routine became different therefore harder for her to workout. Now that she’s more used to her new life in college she feels like she’s able to incorporate gym time into her weekly schedule. She’s still on a Pre-contemplation stage, and that is because the moment she was ready to go back to the gym she hurt her knee and now she has to treat it before she can workout without causing any more damage. She wants to change her behavior as quick as possible, but she do have to wait for medical release and there’s no due date. The only thing I can suggest her is to focus on getting her knee better. after that she can start thinking of when she’s willing and able to start working out again. than she can slowly incorporate gym into her schedule, giving herself time to get use to it again and rewarding herself, because we know it can be hard and frustrating to begin the habit all over again. student #2: My husband, Joe, wants to make the health behavior change of waking up early and going to the gym to workout 4 days a week. He is in the preparation stage of this behavior change. He intends to take action within the next month and he has already taken some behavior change towards this goal. He is consistently waking up early. He goes to the gym most days, however he does not go 4 days a week. At this point Joe has been making great steps towards this goal so I would suggest moving forward with the action stage where he upholds his behavior change for up to six months. Rather than giving in to the temptation of staying home, I’d suggest that Joe push through it to bring his behavior change to the next step. Once this behavior change has been implemented and the new habit is formed, he can work on maintaining his behavior change after those 6 months for as long as he wants.
