Q5:Case study- part two Adnan Kassab is a young boy,
Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts using the 3C+Q method. Use 2023 journal article to cite with information. For example, you will need to include the following components in your response: A compliment: “I appreciate that…” A comment: “I agree with that…I disagree because…” A connection: “I also thought…” A thought-provoking question. The topic I chose to explore was screening for skin cancer. I chose this topic because I myself have had melanoma and this is an important subject for me. Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States. The population that this recommendation applies to is adolescents and adults. It further applies to asymptomatic adolescents and adults who have no history of premalignant or malignant lesions. The recommendation is that there is not enough evidence to say that a visual inspection by a provider is either beneficial or harmful to the adult or adolescent patient when assessing for skin cancer. The grade of this recommendation is “I”. The USPSTF issues an “I statement” when there is not enough evidence or when the available evidence is of poor quality or conflicting. As a result, the USPSTF is unable to assess the balance of benefits and harms and cannot make a recommendation for or against providing the preventive service. All this being said, the USPSTF further states that providers should rely on their own judgment when deciding whether to screen for skin cancer. I believe that all patients should be counseled on preventative behaviors, such as minimizing sun exposure, protecting their skin when in the sun, and avoiding tanning beds (Mangione et al., 2023). On a personal note, I had several blistering sunburns as a child which can be directly linked to the development of my melanoma. Healthy skin practices should be taught to parents so that they can prevent skin damage for their children as well as themselves.
