CHC50121 – Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care CHCECE041 – Maintain a safe and healthy environment for children Assessment Task 3 – Excursion risk assessment Plan an excursion for a group of children in a regulated Children’s Education and Care service where you are on placement. Utilise the service policies and procedures along with legislative and regulatory requirements in relation to excursions. NOTE: it is not required that this excursion be conducted Once you have planned your excursion complete the Risk Assessment and Management Plan Template – Excursion. You may use ACECQA excursion template provided or the sample template provided in the Victoria Gardens’ policies and procedures. Once the excursion is planned and the Risk Assessment and Management plan template is completed discuss your excursion with your Workplace Supervisor and gain their feedback. Finally complete a self-reflection on your excursion plan responding to the questions listed. Excursion planning template 1 Identify and describe the age group of children you are planning an excursion for Toddlers (2-4 years): Toddlers are curious and energetic. In addition, they will be developing language and motor skills. Moreover, they enjoy hands-on activities and exploring their environment. 2 Research three (3) options for your chosen excursion age group and list the location, facilities and activities available at each one. These locations must be local to your current service. Location Facilities Activities 1. Kidzmania Indoor Play Centre Address: 129-133 Ballarat Road, Braybrook VIC 3019 Kidzmania has separate play areas for each age group. For example, they have a dedicated toddler area separate from the larger playground. The toddler section is soft and age-appropriate, designed to protect children’s safety. Moreover, it has climbing areas, ball pits, and smaller slides. Toddlers get to explore the soft play equipment while honing their motor skills and physical coordination. The play area has toys that are rich in senses, like climbing blocks, tunnels, and balls, to encourage young children’s physical development and curiosity. There are also birthday party packages and special themed events that involve group activities and games suitable for toddlers. 2. Melbourne Zoo Address: Elliott Avenue, Parkville, Melbourne. Melbourne Zoo has baby changing stations, family bathrooms, picnic areas, and stroller-friendly paths. In addition, there are plenty of shaded spots for resting, it is a great choice for families with young children. Keeper Kids Play Space: An interactive indoor space created with young children in mind. Pretend to be a veterinarian or zoo keeper to help toddlers with their imaginative play. Expanding The Wild Zone is a kid-only area with interactive animal statues, tunnel exploration, and sandpit play. Toddlers will love seeing the area’s little animals, such as meerkats and tortoises. Animal Exhibits: Elephants, lions, kangaroos, and penguins are just a few of the species that toddlers can enjoy visiting. The displays are made to be stroller-accessible and easy for small children to view. For children, Zoorassic Park is an exhibit with life-size animatronic dinosaurs. 3. St Kilda Beach There are plenty of eateries, cafés, public restrooms, and playgrounds along St Kilda Beach. Toddlers will love exploring the vast grassy picnic areas within the beachfront reserve. Toddlers can play in the sand and paddle in the shallow waters of the beach safely at St Kilda. Toddlers can climb, slide and swing at the nearby St Kilda Adventure Playground. Moreover, with beach activities such as collecting seashells in the sand, children can learn new vocabulary and develop fine motor skills, language development and social development. 3 What policies and procedures apply to excursions?
