Your reading response paper is based on synthesizing the material above as you answer the questions I have provided below. The reading response (RR) should provide me with evidence that you have read and watched the 2 sources of information assigned (the chapters in our book and the YouTube clip. 2. Synthesizing doesn’t mean summarizing the material. The point of the reading reflection assignments is to analyze and synthesize the assigned readings and film into a personal reflection that shows your ability to utilize higher-level critical thinking skills. If you are unfamiliar with synthesizing in your scholarly writing, you will want to explore the terms (summary vs. synthesizing) to be successful with your reading responses. Written requirements- 1. APA 7th edition style and formatting includes a title page, page numbers, in-text citations, and a reference page. You do not need an abstract or a running header. 2. Double spaced. One-inch margins. Use acceptable font and font sizes (11 or 12 pt.)per APA 7th edition. 3. The reference page and title page do not count as content pages. They are additional. 4. Length: No less than 4 full content pages and try to not go beyond 5 pgs. 5. Use your individualized voice. Your voice is important in scholarly writing, balanced with any authors that you have directed cited or paraphrased. 6. There should be no use of block quotes (40 or more words) in this reading response and your use of direct shorter quotes should be used sparingly. Learn to paraphrase over simply inserting a string of direct quotes and remember even in paraphrasing you should still cite the source. 7. Polished writing includes proofreading. This is an assignment where the use of Artificial Intelligence, like ChatGPT is not acceptable. There will be opportunities in the course where I will encourage and suggest their use, but this beginning one should all come from your original thinking. Remember, the use of AI in a large class means I can easily see who uses it and who is critically thinking this through with their own personal and professional perspective. Reading response (RR# 1) questions- a) If you were tasked with explaining infant mental health or the developmental science of early childhood to a group of professionals who were unfamiliar with the field and its main tenets, what would you want to be sure to share with them? b) The work of Russian-born American developmental psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner (1917 -2005) reminds us that children develop within the contexts of family and community, whereby they both affect and are affected by experiences and relationships within those contexts. Donald Woods Winnicott (1896-1971) one of Britain’s foremost pediatricians and psychoanalysts is famously quoted as saying: There is no such thing as a baby, there is a baby and someone. Having read and explored the material so far in this first module, in your own words, what do relational contexts have to do with infant mental health? c) What do you think about the concept of Winnicott “good-enough mother”? What about fathers? What role do fathers have in all this? d) What foundational concepts across the readings & video clip about infant mental health resonate the most with you and why?
