0645 Report from ICU nurse: Glenn Massey is a 37-year-old who is post 2nd and 3rd degree burns on 18% of their body. The burns are located on the arms bilaterally and the upper torso. The client is employed at a chemical refinery. The burns are an occupational injury that occurred after an explosion at the refinery. The client was admitted 7 days ago to the ICU. They arrived via ambulance, intubated and in critical condition. The client is now stable and ready for transfer to the floor. The current vital signs are BP 142/91, temperature 37.4 C (99.40 F), pulse 102, respiratory 28, and Sp02 96% on room air. The client is AAO x 4 and is receiving 5mg morphine intermittent IV bolus every 3 hr PRN for pain control. They have a continuous IV infusion of D5 1/2 NS at 150 mL/hr to a right subclavian central line. Indwelling urinary catheter is draining clear urine, their current |&O is in the chart. The client has a prescription for dressing changes to the burns every shift. The client requires strict infection control precautions. The client’s family has been notified of the transfer to the floor. The client is focused on returning to work in a few days even though the nursing staff has explained the rehabilitation process of burn injuries. The client does not seem to understand the amount of time required for healing from burn injuries of this extent. We will be bringing the client to you shortly.
