The third article, titled “Effectiveness of a Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT)-Informed Group for Post-9/11 Veterans with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD),” explores veterans suffering from PTSD, focusing on addressing comorbid conditions such as depression and anxiety, including the prevalence of comorbid psychiatric conditions and barriers to treatment like stigma and time commitment. This study evaluates five sessions of group therapy and focuses on changing irrational beliefs to reduce symptoms of depression, anger, guilt, and anxiety. The article highlights that group therapy can mitigate the barriers to therapy, as veterans engage with fellow veterans who share similar experiences. Peer support can decrease self-stigma so that veterans can feel understood. The REBT-Informed Group had 17 Veterans categorized as “dropouts,” and seven others did not finish treatment due to medical, work, or childcare reasons. This resulted in a dropout rate of 26.56% and a “non-completion” rate of 33.80%. The dropout or “non-completion” rates were not provided for the PTSD Recovery Group (Grove et al., 2021).
