Students will be able to: Identify multilevel determinants influencing a chosen health behavior among a target population Provide the rationale for selected theories used to guide intervention development Align theoretical constructs and methods to intervention activities Discuss strengths and weaknesses of the theories as applied to the proposed intervention The Health Communication Report will be written like a congressional health expert testimony report, to be delivered at a hypothetical U.S. House committee hearing. Below are the sections of your report. Statement of the problem. Choose a health issue (public health problem) for a selected priority population. Explain why it is a concern for a selected group of people. Determine scope of the health behavior you are interested in addressing in your intervention. Consider the level of prevention (primary, secondary, tertiary) and type of behavior (preventive, illness, sick-role). Conduct a literature review to identify determinants across the ecological model that influence the health behavior among your priority population. Determine which determinant(s) you would like to address in your intervention. What are the impacts of this particular health issues? What factors contribute to the Select appropriate theory(ies) that can help address the identified determinants of your health behavior. Develop objective(s) of your intervention. Think S-M-A-R-T! (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time-bound). Develop specific intervention strategies and activities that are guided by your theory(ies). In other words, how are you going to translate the theoretical constructs into your intervention? Design a data visualization (infographic) that clearly communicates your theory-based health intervention to the general public. You will develop a data visualization artifact as part of your Health Communications Report, designed for the general public as an example which could be an infographic or other form of data interpretation and presentation through graphical means.
