Step 3. Scope of the Problem: 20% In this section, you provide a strong argument about the relevance of the problem you identified above. Analyze the problem with the health factor you selected by including the following information (using overall statistics globally, United States, etc.): the burden (how many people it affects), frequency (how often it occurs), severity (how serious of a problem it is), and scope (the range of outcomes it affects). For example: if obesity is the problematic factor, then it impacts cardiovascular disease, diabetes, mortality, healthcare costs, etc. (source) Support the above description and analysis with evidence from scientific literature (minimum of three current scientific journals references). Step 4. Selection of Two Policy Options: 20% In this section, you need to select two possible policy options that could help improve the health care problem you identified in your community. These potential policies are not currently implemented in your community but may be in other places. To make this selection: Review the literature and best practices (studies, projects, or initiatives) that have addressed the problem. Explore what other jurisdictions are doing or have done to address the same problem you identified above. Once you have gathered the information, analyze each policy option separately. Provide supporting evidence (minimum of three (3) current references for this section) of why each policy could be a solution to the problem by answering the following questions for each criterion: Health impact: How does the policy address the problem (e.g., increase access, protect from exposure)? Which population will benefit? Which population will not benefit? (e.g., smoking cessation policy will improve morbidity and mortality in both smokers and non-smokers, but it may negatively impact business owners who sell cigarettes). How will the policy impact health disparities/health equity? Political feasibility: Who are the stakeholders, including supporters and opponents? Operational feasibility: What resources are needed/available to implement the policy? (Manpower? Financial?) Budgetary impact: What are the costs and benefits associated with the policy, from a budgetary perspective? (e.g., for public entities including local, state, federal, or private entities). Step 5. Health Policy Recommendation 20% Select one (1) policy option from the two discussed above. Use evidence to support your selection (minimum of two (2) references for this section). Remember this is a potential policy not already implemented in your community (for example, you discussed the Soda tax, but increasing the soda tax is different from what is implemented). Briefly describe why you selected this one potential policy option by addressing the following questions: What are the objectives of the policy? What is the policy lever? (Is it legislative, administrative, regulatory?) What level of government or institution will implement it? How does the policy operate? (e.g., is it mandatory? Will enforcement be necessary? How is it funded? Who is responsible for administering the policy?) What is the historical context (e.g., has the policy been debated previously?) What is the value-added of the policy? (e.g., if the problem has been addressed by other policies/programs, what does this policy add to what already exists?) What impact will the policy and or potential legislation have on the population that you serve as a potential advance practice nurse/advance administrator. Step 6 Conclusion: 10% The conclusion should include a brief summary of the problem and the selected policy. Step 7: References: 5% Prepares a scholarly paper conforming to 7th edition APA format of 6 pages in length(The 6 pages do not include Title Page as per APA format, references and or tables). Please provide a minimum of four references in APA format.
