This assessment activity requires you to identify a local government area or council, explore various aspects of the healthcare system in this area, health and illness issues impacting people in this area and present information you gathered in the classroom (or using a virtual communication or meeting platform, as advised by your trainer/assessor). As part of this individual presentation, choose a local government area or council in your State/Territory to explore. For example, in NSW – Bayside Council, Blacktown City Council, City of Parramatta, City of Randwick and City of Penrith. In Queensland – City of Brisbane, Lockyer Valley Region, Shire of Noosa, Somerset Region and Toowoomba Region. Your assessor will help you to choose a local government area or council in your State/Territory for this presentation activity. More than one student may research the same local government area or council depending on the total number of students in your class. Make sure you undertake relevant research and preparation individually. Research and prepare notes on Gorges River council and in your presentation you must include the following: A. Identify the local government area or council chosen and research the evolution of the healthcare system in this area (any six major historical aspects). B. Current structure of the health care system in the area. C. Evolution of the nursing profession in this area (any six key points). D. The key characteristics of people living in the chosen local government area – what constitutes the people of this area. This must include information on people from Australia, people migrated from other countries to this area and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. E. Identify the roles of the interdisciplinary health care team and personnel in supporting these people in your area. I. Identify the roles of two (2) other community agencies in promoting positive health outcomes for these people in your area. J. Identify any four (4) non-western health care approaches adopted by people in your area. K. Identify any three (3) community health promotional strategies available in your region to support these people. L. Evaluate whether each of these identified community health promotional strategies are effective or not in meeting the needs of the people. M. How does the environment they live in, cultural barriers prevalent among people and community acceptance impact the health and illness of these people and safe delivery of quality healthcare services to them (for people from Australia including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people who have migrated to Australia)? N. What social circumstances, contemporary political and economic concepts impact safe delivery of quality healthcare services to these people? Consider the impact of funding sources to support health care, constraints or limitations on services including health care resource allocation in the local area. O. Strengths and weakness of the health care system in the area. P. Identify and discuss national, State/Territory and local health priorities relevant to the identified area. Q.
