comment on the following in one paragraph Nursing shortages are a huge concern and according to the American Nurses Association “in September of 2021 a letter to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services was sent out urging the country to declare the current and unsustainable nurse staffing shortage to be a national crisis” (Gaines, 2022). It becomes dangerous when there is not the appropriate staffing to accommodate the influx of patient. This can lead to errors, higher morbidity, and mortality rates (Hadded et al., 2022). These errors occur from nurses being overworked and not having the proper help to compete with the growing ratios of patients. “In hospitals with high patient-to-nurse ratios, nurses experience burnout, dissatisfaction, and the patients experienced higher mortality and failure-to-rescue rates than facilities with lower patient-to-nurse ratios” (Hadded et al., 2022). Not only does this effect the nurse his/herself but it also impacts other members of the team. Interdisciplinary teams work together to provide a plan to achieve optimal care for patients. When there is a shortage within the team this can lead to someone taking on more work to compensate for the short handedness. When nurses themselves are shorthanded, the quality and amount of care provided to patients does not change.
