Course Project Case Study: Mrs. Braxton is a 57-year-old African American female who had gone to the Emergency Room 3 weeks ago with complaints of weakness and dizziness. She was put on the cardiac monitor and was found to be in Atrial Fibrillation with Rapid Ventricular Response (RVR). She was admitted to the cardiac telemetry unit for cardioversion. Shortly after admission, she developed facial droop, aphasia, dysphagia, and right sided weakness. She was diagnosed with an ischemic CVA. She was stabilized, placed on anticoagulants, and started rehabilitation. Due to her continued inability to swallow she had a PEG tube inserted and was receiving ATC tube feedings. She is being admitted to your sub-acute rehab hospital for rehabilitation. Mrs. Braxton has a medical history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus type I, asthma, atrial fibrillation, and ischemic CVA. She was on antibiotics 6 months prior for a urinary tract infection that has since resolved. She lives with her husband who is an elementary school principal. She has two adult sons who live nearby who are very attentive to their mother. Mrs. Braxton is a paralegal for a large law firm and is active in her church.
