Curious what your thoughts were on the article from the Unit 1 reading defining consumer health informatics? To me (though difficult to define as outlined in the article) consumer health informatics is one of the progressive future areas of Health Informatics as a discipline. I especially appreciated this definition of CHI in the article: Gibbons et al. (55) Consumer health informatics is defined as any electronic tool, technology or electronic application that is designed to interact directly with consumers, with or without the presence of a health care professional that provides or uses individualized (personal) information and provides the consumer with individualized assistance, to help the patient better manage their health or health care. I found the definition of this progressive area of the discipline of Health Informatics as “with or without the presence of a health care professional” especially clarifying in that this does not simply have to do with sub specializations of interest to healthcare professionals. It also made me think of areas of my personal life where I track my own health using personal technology, such as my watch which reminds me to meditate and move.
