discuss and agree: Burnout – at one of my previous workplaces, I discovered after little time that the majority of my coworkers were experiencing burnout. Not only did this affect their performance at work, but I noted it affected how they interacted with their colleagues and it affected their personal life, family life, and overall mental health. The role and responsibility of the nurse leader in identifying, preventing, and mitigating these factors is immense. In any sort of leadership position, it is your responsibility to be aware of the culture of your work environment and be aware of the signs and symptoms of burnout in employees. If you are witnessing a negative work culture, you should make changes to improve it and prevent it from worsening. If you notice employees who are experiencing burnout, then you should have a solution such as encouraging them to take some PTO or offering them some sort of professional guidance as your organization allows. For another class, I actually designed a Bill that I sent to the Senate regarding healthcare professionals and burnout, and how there should be more things in place in order to help those who are experiencing it.
