DRNP- 6540 Week 1 Main Discussion Post Mrs. Chow, an 85-year-old widowed Chinese American, she is brought to the office by her daughter. The daughter states that her mother seems to be sad and does not seem like her usual self. Mrs. Chow reports she has more headaches now, they do respond to Tylenol, she feels her mood change is related to this. There is a history of depression approximately 5 years ago, shortly after Mrs. Simmons’s husband died. At that time, she was successfully treated with antidepressants. Her daughter reports that she is now showing mood and behavior similar to that event. Additionally, the daughter states that her mother’s memory for appointments and events has declined severely, and she can no longer drive because she does not remember the route to the store or other familiar places. The daughter also noted that her mother’s house seemed very disorganized and she not as clean as she usually kept it. There was also a limited amount of food in the kitchen, and there are some unpaid bills, now past due, on her dining table. Mrs. Simmons appears slightly disheveled, she has a flat affect, and she does not maintain eye contact during your interview.
