The untold story of the beauty of Afghanistan Grab yourself a cup of chai (tea) and kulcha (cookies) and indulge In this story of my experience of the beauty in Afghanistan. I decided to book a flight using Turkish Airlines to Afghanistan and get first-hand experience of the country. As we landed on the ground and headed out of the airport after being integrated for hours as to why we were there and where we were staying, we got to see a beautiful greeting sign that stated I love Afghanistan in blue and read blocks. As I decided to walk around Kabul, I was accompanied by a male companion for our safety who wore a beautiful silky blue tunci shirt and pants. The front of the tunci shirt had a mesmerizing gold detailing, which seemed to have been embroidered over the fine quality fabric. I had to wear a stunning black hijab, a square scarf covering the head and neck. Walking the streets of Kabul, we greet people with the appropriate greeting, which was “As-Salaam-Alaikum,” which translates in English as ‘Peace be upon you, and they would respond with “Wa-Alaikum-Salaam” which is “And unto you peace.” After walking the streets of Kabul, we decided it was time to head to our hotel, which is known as The Kabul Serena Hotel. It is located in the heart of Kabul and is only 20 minutes from the airport. The hotel features two dining establishments, cutting-edge banqueting and meeting spaces, wellness amenities, a high-end shopping district, a pastry shop, and a laundry facility. We started our next day with excitement as we headed to the Kabul Museum, a two-story building once considered one of the world’s finest museums. The Afghan National Museum opened in 1919, and many treasures of ivory are stored there. It was breathtaking walking around the museum and seeing all the artifacts, especially the royal crown from Tillia Tepe. Once we finished walking through the historical museum, we decided to get some food as, at this point, my stomach was hurting from the hunger. We headed to a restaurant called Sufi Restaurant. We ordered our first dish, called Kabul Pulao, a traditional dish prepared with steamed rice mixed with various dry fruits, including raisins and almonds, caramelized carrots, and a range of sweet spices. I also ordered my favourite dish, Mantu, a dumpling wrapper filled with spicy minced meat. The dumpling is then steamed until it is fully cooked. After exploring Kabul, I headed to Mazar-e Sharif, which was a 5 hour and 53 min drive. We cross the Kabul province’s lowlands as we leave the capital city behind. Moving past are rows of mud houses. Children and donkeys both haul brick bundles. On the side of the road, in itty-bitty wooden houses, farmers sell their harvest. Truck trailers that were left abandoned in some places have been converted into residences or workshops. As we drove for hours, our driver lit a cigarette in the car, and the smell of stale odder caused my eye to water. We finally reached the checkpoint where a soldier was standing to search for insurgents, and once we were deemed clear, we were officially in Mazar-e Sharif. SCIENCE HEALTH SCIENCE NURSING NURS 24998
