Fulton (1987) writes of Virginia Henderson, a well-known nursing theorist from the mid 1900’s. “Virginia Henderson: Theorist, prophet, poet” highlights how one nurse scientist translated her thoughts into poetry to capture the unique qualities that nursing claims as our own. For this week, we’d like you to think about your own experience as a nurse or aspiring nurse and choose an art form that is representative of what YOU think nursing is and how you see Brooks & Volf’s (2016) 3 F’s (Human Flourishing, Cultural Fluency, and Faith/Spirituality) informing nursing practice. You can choose a photo, a piece of art, a song, a poem, a piece of literature, or you can create your own! Once you’ve identified what you’ll share with your peers, answer the following questions: 1. How does this art form represent nursing and Brooks & Volf’s (2016) 3 F’s to you? 2. Does Chinn et al. (2022) address Archibald’s (2012) differentiation of “the art in nursing” and “the aesthetics of nursing”? What questions still linger? 3. What is one takeaway from this week that you’ll incorporate into your own art of nursing?
