Health Promotion Project/Paper: Health promotion is an essential part of Community Health Nursing. This project is based on the teaching/learning principles taught in Nursing 382 and will address an identified need in an aggregate population. This assignment consists of two parts: 1) implementing the project in a community or school setting if available; 2) a written assignment based on the teaching planned/completed in the chosen setting. It is based on the age group selected that provides theoretical background for the health promotion project and allows reflection on the experience. Health Promotion Project and Presentation Criteria (If there is an opportunity, the project may be presented at a local community center, to school age children, or the elderly population) • The Health Promotion project is a teaching project developed by the students that may be presented at a local community setting to their selected population. • The Health Promotion project is based on an identified need in the local community that can be implemented in the community by presenting/educating a selected age group. o There are different resources available to help you identify community needs for your Health Promotion project. There are many sources to refer to, suggestions include: â–ª The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention monitors Youth Risk Behaviors and pertinent information is available on their website. http://www.cdc.gov/HealthyYouth/yrbs/index.htm â–ª Healthy People 2030 General Objectives â–ª https://health.gov/healthypeople â–ª New York State Department of Health http://www.health.ny.gov/community/ • The Health Promotion project (presentation) can be done as a group or individually. • Students will choose the Health Promotion project topic to be presented to an aggregate population. • All presentations need to be developmentally-based and interactive with the theoretical foundation provided by the individual scholarly written paper. • The Health Promotion project can include poster presentations, hands on experience, power points, or audio-visual demonstrations. • The Health Promotion project presentation and age group for the presentation will be determined by the student with the assistance of the faculty If you choose to work as a group, all group members working together will receive the same grade for the Health Promotion project. This group grade will be added to your individual scholarly paper grade. (The written scholarly paper is an individual assignment and will be graded individually.) Individual Scholarly Paper Guidelines: BASTABLE TEXTBOOK IS YOUR BEST FRIEND FOR THIS PAPER!!!! • NURS Z382 allows students to submit drafts of their work for feedback from faculty prior to final submission. A draft may be a complete project or a portion of that project. Faculty will not grade the draft but will indicate areas needing improvement. Please note that draft submission is not a requirement. • Individually write paper based on the age group/aggregate population that provides theoretical background for the health promotion project and allows reflection on the health promotion project/presentation experience. • The written paper will be based upon the development of the Health Promotion Project and Presentation using the theoretical teaching/learning principles learned in NURS Z382. • The written paper must follow APA (7th edition) style guidelines. APA is written in 3rd person, includes a cover/title page, introduction and concluding paragraph, and references. The paper must reference at least five scholarly sources published within the last five years, unless you are citing a sentinel article. • The paper will include the following: o APA Cover/ Page o Brief Introduction o Description of the Health Promotion Project: o Give a brief description of what content you taught in your health promotion project. â–ª What did/should the learner experience when they attend your teaching? • Description of the Learner: o Describe the population (age group) that is the focus of your health promotion project. o According to developmental theorists Erikson, Piaget and Kolhberg (include all three): â–ª Describe the appropriate developmental stage for this population (age group) â–ª Describe the developmental tasks relevant for this population (age group) based on developmental theories established by Erikson, Piaget and Kolhberg. o Describe the expected physical development for the population (age group). â–ª PLEASE BE SURE TO INCLUDE REFERENCES FOR YOUR DESCRIPTION OF THE STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. • Description of the Community Health Learning Need: o Describe an identified learning need for your population. â–ª How did you determine that this was a learning need for this age group? There are many different options to determine your learning need. â–ª Is this an issue addressed by Healthy People 2030? â–ª PLEASE BE SURE TO INCLUDE REFERENCES FOR THE JUSTIFICATION OF YOUR LEARNING NEED. o Some suggestions include: â–ª Is this an issue that was identified on the Youth Risk Behavioral Survey? â–ª Does the Centers for Disease Control have statistics that support your need? â–ª What about the New York State Department of Health? • Health Promotion Project Teaching/Learning Goals: â–ª Identify two goals for your presentation based on your identified learning need. â–ª You may use a bulleted format for this section. • Health Promotion Project Learner Behavioral Objectives: â–ª List a minimum of 5 objectives for your presentation based on your identified learning need. â–ª You may use a bulleted format for this section. â–ª Use Bloom’s Taxonomy as a guide • Description of Health Promotion Project Teaching Methods: â–ª Discuss the teaching methods utilized for your project. â–ª PROVIDE A RATIONALE WITH A REFERENCE FOR THE CHOICE OF EACH TEACHING METHOD. â–ª Base your discussion on the developmental level of your learner. • Description of Health Promotion Project Materials: â–ª What materials and aids were used for the project? â–ª How did you know that these materials would be appropriate for the age group you are teaching? â–ª INCLUDE RATIONALES WITH A REFERENCE FOR THE CHOICE OF MATERIALS AND AIDS USED. • Description of Health Promotion Project Learner Evaluation of met Objectives (may be theoretical): â–ª Theoretically, how would you evaluate the effectiveness of the health promotion project? â–ª This may be a hypothetical discussion.
