How can I reply to this post
How can I reply to this post in a way that includes a scholarly citation? It is challenging for me to investigate anything involving psychology without a heart of discernment, not because I do not believe in the beauty of science and the truth that the Lord has created it to be. But, because we live in a fallen world, there are false ideals that try to cover the Truth. I often pray for the Lord to continue to grow my heart of discernment and seek out the truth that could be hidden behind the deceit. So, when approaching the Stages of Change model, and learning that it was formulated to help counselors be more effective in their work with those who struggle with substance abuse and addiction, due to it including the five predictable and identifiable stages a substance abuse addict goes through (Inaba & Cohen, 2014). I saw an agreeable tool that could be used by not only Christian counselors, but also those struggling with addiction, who can better understand what their friend/family member is going through. Now, where these two subjects agree, conflict can be more challenging to express without using scripture evidence. In chapter nine reading, it is often mentioned the role of the counselor and the individual seeking help. But these roles slightly conflict with the Truth, but I do not find it concerning. I agree with the role of the client, that it is particularly challenging, if not impossible, to help someone’s life if they are not willing to change and think their current situation is problematic. However, where I disagree slightly, the counselor is in control of navigating the situation and becomes the retighten in the situation. 2 Chronicles 7:14 states, “if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land” (English Standard Version, 2001). We are to humble ourselves and understand our sins, as the client does. However, as the counselors, we are not in control of healing them from their wrongdoings, which are only in the Lord’s power. As a counselor, we are to turn the individual in crisis into the one who can save, but also use these tools founded by science to help get them there. SCIENCE HEALTH SCIENCE NURSING GLST 220
