I have to respond to Two of my peers. I am sending their posts one by one. You are required to give a minimum of two responses and follow the criteria listed below: Review how your classmates achieved each course competency and transferable skill. Identify new knowledge others gained you had not considered. Describe how this new knowledge could impact your nursing practice. 1st Post Apply strategies for safe, effective multidimensional nursing practice when providing care for clients with neurological disorders. MDC 4 has really been effective on my critical care skills. This has helped me apply safe strategies when I floated to the ICU. For a patient with neurological disorders I learned that you must not cluster care. Clustering care for a patient with increased ICP can actually stress them out and increase their cranial pressure even more (Workman, 2019). This is something that all staff can attend to in order to help the patient. Outline appropriate nursing strategies for providing care to perioperative clients. Appropriate nursing strategies for perioperative clients is definitely education. Although we cannot directly teach the patient about the operation, we can advocate that our patients go in with the best understanding they have and call the provider if needed. We must also check the MAR to see which medications may be given before procedure if any and making sure their cleaned and ready to go for their procedure (Workman, 2019). We can then ask if the patient has any questions and make sure the signature on the consent form is real and patient is alert and oriented. Compare nursing interventions for clients with complex disorders. Although this can be challenging we want to treat all our patients with the same care. Something considered complex could be multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. For interventions of this complex disorder you need multiple people. You need the provider, the nurses, the respiratory therapist, and sometimes even a social worker. When dealing with a patient who has a complex disorder you want all hands on deck, safe and quality care, adequate training, and interventions that can help reduce signs and symptoms without a doctors order. Identify strategies for safe nursing practice of the client with multi-system organ failure. The best strategy for multi-system organ failure is to treat the infection or cause (Workman, 2019). Treating the main infection and stoping the cause will help all the systems. Early antibiotic care, hydration therapy, and oxygen are the best ways to help treat. Because we cannot supply the antibiotic care without a provider we can raise the head of the bed, oxygen of 2L, and calling a rapid response. Prioritize nursing interventions for clients with medical emergencies. ABCDE is always the nursing intervention standard. We always want to make sure in a medical emergency what is the most important thing we are looking for. Airway, breathing, circulation, disability, and exposure. In that order we help provide nursing interventions to obtain the first level of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs in food, water, shelter, sleeping, and air (Workman, 2019). This helps us prioritize our steps in order to assure our patients safety and health. Summarize the nurse’s role and care strategies for clients during disaster. The goal of nurses during disaster is triaging patients and helping the most amount of patients they can in a short period of time. The highest acuity patient is always seen first, again using the ABCDE method. You must always place patients into priority levels based on the severity of illness or injury. Tagging between red, yellow, green, and black; the nurses can help patients the quickest. Red being immediate care within 10 minutes, yellow within 30 minutes, and green is within 1-2 hours. If a patient is black tagged they are labeled failure to thrive and we must place the patient to pass away comfortably (Workman, 2019). This care strategy helps save the most amount of patients in a short amount of time. 2nd post Apply strategies for safe, effective multidimensional nursing practice when caring for clients with neurological disorders. Multidimensional Care, in general, is a class that prepares us to be great nurses. I found that these classes keep adding knowledge to us in every category. This course specifically teaches how to care for patients with neurological disorders. First, we must understand each neurological disorder to correctly address the patient’s treatment. Even though I had previous knowledge about Parkinson’s disease, this course helped me learn how to care for these patients and their daily struggles. Outline appropriate nursing strategies for providing care to perioperative clients. Nursing strategies for preoperative clients were another important topic we learned in this course. As a future nurse having the method to prepare patients for surgery is a plus. Most of the time, perioperative patients have anxiety or fear about the surgery. It’s our role to help them overcome these fears and even bring the surgeon to answer further questions. As nurses, we need to be ready to treat and help patients with all kinds of disorders, which will require the nursing interventions we learn in this course. An example of new knowledge I gained in this course is that discharge education is vital for these patients and their families. When these patients come to the hospital, they often leave with new treatments that the family needs to learn about. Also, we must educate the family on resources they must get help with, such as home help. Compare nursing interventions for clients with complex disorders. Multi-system organ failure was another important topic that we learned in this course, along with sepsis. The management of MODS requires a multidisciplinary approach that includes antibiotics for sepsis control and microcirculatory and respiratory support for perfusion. All these interventions need the nurse to have adequate training to guarantee the best patient outcomes. At first, I was scared because the patient was in immediate danger, and as a new nurse, I didn’t feel ready. Thanks to the latest knowledge I acquired in this class, I now understand that I can be prepared to care for these patients with the proper training and dedication. Prioritize nursing interventions for clients with medical emergencies. Prioritization is a topic that needs a lot of training and knowledge; this class allowed me to correct triage patients and assist most patients in a short time. Triage is so necessary so that we can help the most injured patient and, this way, guarantee a better outcome. An example that is hard for me is that every time I see little kids, I want to make it a priority, and now I have more strategies to assign them the correct triage. Summarize the nurse’s role and care strategies for clients during disasters. The nurse is ready to help as many patients as possible during disasters. Triage of patients is one of the primary roles of the nurse, so other providers can move faster and help patients with a better chance of survival. Nurses can also be in charge and must be ready to give reports and coordinate evacuation or transportation to nearby places. A new knowledge that I gained is that nurses need to be prepared to help in a disaster situation which means that from now on, we need to be ready everywhere we go. Describe how this new knowledge will impact your nursing practice. All this new knowledge keeps adding to make me a better nurse. Understanding neurological disorders and the proper nursing interventions for these patients make me more ready for my career as a nurse. As I described before, prioritization was not my strong suit. After taking this class and practicing, I feel confident I can correctly triage patients as a new nurse. Overall, this class has been an excellent source of information for my future as a nurse.
