I need help completing this nursing care plan concept map
When thinking about the neurobiological factors behind hunger the first thing I think of is the correlation between the hypothalamus and the hunger and satiety hormones, Ghrelin and leptin. These two hormones work in an opposing manner on appetite and satiety. They work in a delicate balance to maintain homeostasis. Simply put, the signals that these two hormones send and receive tell our bodies when to be hungry and when we are full. As a mother of a child with ARFID, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, I think about this process daily. I wonder how we can help signal the hungry signals in my son’s brain to be more consistent and with a larger pool of acceptable food sources. While it’s far more complex, I think this is at the very basic foundation. While ARFID is a new in the psychology world, I can only hope that one day researchers will be able to find a reliable way to instigate the hunger cues for those who live with eating disorders. I’ve attached a YouTube video below for an education opportunity on ARFID.
