In this assignment, you will identify two interventions and develop a corresponding evaluation plan to address the needs of an ascertained population (could include an individual, family, or community) in the field of trauma and abuse, using an identified theoretical framework (chosen from the class discussions). Argue the efficacy of the trauma informed interventions chosen as an effective response with trauma survivors and/or perpetrators. (CO 1, 2 and 3) Identify and describe the process of clinical intervention beginning from the assessment stage to the evaluation phase. (CO 1, 2 and 3) Introduction: Client Information (2 pages; 15%) Provide a brief overview of the paper. (no more than one paragraph) Describe the client’s presenting problem. Include client information (age, sex, gender, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, family composition, etc.). Discuss how membership in a specific social group may contribute to the problem. Include a psychiatric diagnosis according to the DSM-5 and a differential diagnosis, if needed. Describe any problems the client is experiencing apart from the diagnoses. Bio-Psychosocial Assessment (2 pages; 15%) Provide a comprehensive bio-psychosocial assessment, including biological, environmental, family of origin, trauma, and developmental-history factors, as well as other experiences that may have contributed to the client’s current functioning. Discuss the client’s past and current coping mechanisms and the impact of the trauma (violence and/or abuse) on their current functioning. Include client strengths and any challenges based on the cultural diversity of the client. Examine the interpersonal interaction with the client during your sessions and what they they indicate about the client’s interaction with others. Discuss some of your engagement strategies. Identify the client’s treatment goals. Discuss 2-3 clear, concise, and measurable treatment goals that you have formulated in collaboration with the client. Background/Literature Review (2 pages; 20%) Provide a literature review of interventions (any 2 interventions) currently used with this target population that attempts to address their experiences of trauma and abuse. Identify the clinical/developmental theories underlying each intervention. Discuss the strengths and challenges with these interventions when with working with culturally diverse clients. Summarize the gaps in the current approach(es) to this issue. Begin to create support for your particular intervention. Identify missing treatment goals and explain on how you would like to expand or use additional interventions. Intervention (5 pages; 35%) Provide an overview of the theoretical perspective that underlines the modality or modalities you have chosen. Provide a detailed explanation of your treatment plan and your choice of modality(ies). Describe the stages that you will be addressing in your treatment plan (e.g., identifying and discussing techniques for stabilization of the client, techniques for managing emotional regulation). Identify whether the plan is a group or individual intervention or a combination of both and describe the following: How many sessions you would suggest that the intervention last. Who you would recruit to participate in the group (age, type of trauma, etc.). Any stipulations you would have regarding who would be able to participate. How or whether you were you engaging with the family of the client as well, including which family members were included. Discuss any inter-professional work in which you will be engaging as it relates to the client(s), working with hospital personnel, law enforcement, the criminal justice system, school, or other mental-health programs (eating disorders, substance abuse, etc.). Discuss how you were able to advocate or your client. Identify challenges you experienced. Discuss some of the other challenges you encountered during the intervention phase—personal, environmental, or other—and how they were addressed. Discuss how countertransference issues affected your work and how those were addressed. Evaluation (1 page; 10%) Describe in detail your evaluation plan. Identify your expected outcomes. Explain how you will know it works. Describe measurements you might use to gauge if the outcomes are met. Explain how the data will be collected. Discuss how this understanding of outcomes will inform your future work with trauma survivors. Conclusion (1/2 page; 5%) Briefly summarize your thoughts and conclusion related to your utilization of the evidence-based intervention with your client. Describe what you felt worked with your client and what more is needed to address areas of the trauma experience that will enhance recovery.
