Current situation Abdullah has learnt to attend to his own bowel and bladder care and currently has a indwelling urinary catheter. He has also learnt how to care for his skin and pressure areas below his level of paralysis. He can drive a car with hand controls and can maneuver his wheelchair into the back seat. The landlord has been helpful and has installed a ramp to access the front door and a few handrails in the bathroom. Following his injury Abdullah became depressed and his self-image as a strong man who is head of the family needed to be adjusted. The relationship between with Afsana also became strained as they both adjusted to changes in their married life. Abdullah still gets very tired and needs to rest out of his chair each afternoon for at least two hours. Abdullah has enrolled part time in a TAFE course in cyber security. The NDIS system is sometimes confusing, and the online services are difficult to find via the website. • Abdullah has requested to move from an indwelling urinary catheter to self catheterisation – but would like to be put in contact with services that can support him with move. • Abdullah would like to connect with men who have also experienced a spinal cord injury to hear from them how they are getting through their day. He feels it will help his mental health.
