Scenario You are playing the role of Omar’s male support person, Harry Jenkins Omar needs a lot of help with balance as he lives with varying levels of vertigo. Your tasks today are: This task requires you to complete a role play assisting Omar to transfer in and out of a car. When Omar gets out of the car he will slip over and you are required to respond to the fall. To complete the role play you are required to: Follow Banksia Care Manual Handling Policy and Procedure for transfer in and out of a car. Follow Banksia Care procedure for Management of Falls Policy and Procedure when Omar falls. Verbally explain each step you are taking when completing the scenario. Submit a 5-8 minute video recording. Note: You can assume you have prepared the car for Omar and commence role play with transferring him into the car. On completion of role play you will be required to complete an Incident, Injury, Trauma, Illness Record form which you will submit in Q12. During the role play, your teacher will be looking to see that you can: Confirm with Omar what personal support you are assisting him with as per individual care plan and determine if any additional needs are to be met. Apply a positive approach during your client interaction and assess how much the client can do for themselves. Talk to the client to find out how much support they need to get in and out of the vehicle. Follow the procedure to transfer the client into the vehicle. Settle the client into the vehicle, so they are comfortable and safe to travel. Follow procedures to transfer the client out of the vehicle. Follow procedures when client falls. Take action to reduce any hazards or risks identified OP1 Confirm with Omar what personal support you are assisting him with as per individual care plan and determine if any additional needs are to be met. Open the car door: Open the car door wide enough to allow the person to exit comfortably. Adjust seat if needed to highest position and as far as back as possible. Provide support: If the person is able to stand and walk with assistance, provide support by holding their arm or waist as they move out of the car. OP6 Take action to reduce any hazards or risks identified. This includes: Using correct Manual handling procedures. Being aware of other cars and road users. Being aware of slip hazards and uneven surfaces. Ensuring all body parts are inside or clear of the car before closing door. OP7 Follow procedures when client falls including: Immediately call the shift supervisor. Do not attempt to move or treat client. Stay with client, talking to them and reassuring them.
