Part 1. Main Entry: Post a brief analysis of what
Meena is an inquisitive 1-year-old toddler who loves crawling. She is trying hard to master walking. While her parents work during the week, Meena’s aunt Priya provides childcare. During the day, Meena keeps busy playing and crawling. Priya decides to make chocolate chip cookies as a special treat. She preheats the oven to 350 degrees, mixes the batter, and puts the cookie dough on a baking sheet. A short time later, Priya opens the oven door. As Priya turns to reach for the tray on the counter, Meena crawls to the oven and places her hand on the open door in an attempt to pull herself to her feet. A piercing scream fills the kitchen as Priya quickly scoops Meena into her arms and rushes her to the sink. Priya runs cool water over Meena’s hand. Meena cries in pain as the palm of her hand turns red and begins to blister and swell. Priya takes the child to the emergency department where Meena is evaluated for burns. During the physical examination, Meena was clearly in distress. The palmar surface of her right hand along with the surfaces of several distal fingers demonstrated partial thickness burns. Aside from her injury, Meena is otherwise healthy. The treatment plan included wound care, cleansing and dressing, pain control, and rehabilitation recommendations. The health care team notes that over the next three weeks, Meena’s caregivers should gently massage her hand with moisturizing lotion and performe range-of-motion exercises. Eventually, Meena makes a full recovery and returns to her normal daily activities. Over time, she does not display any residual signs of psychological distress. See the figures 2-18 and 2-19 to increase your understanding. If Meena’s burns had covered a larger area of her body, she would have been at increased risk of: a. hemostasis. b. fluid retention. c. nerve ending destruction. d. infection.
