I am summarizing the main points in the article “Digital Health Technology Aims to Identify Flu at Home” on healthleadersmedia below: A California-based technology company, Evidation has developed a new technology tool called FluSmart. It can detect flu-like symptoms and give personalized insights, or links for resources from a wearable device. Individuals download the Evidation app and sign up for FluSmart via the app or an online link. They can connect to a wearable device. By answering the questions in the app on weekly bases, Evidation notifies for further action if detecting any abnormal data from the wearable device. This new technology can reduce the waiting room and ED traffic. It can speed up patient treatment. On the other side, employers, schools, or governments can monitor their employees’ health conditions by utilizing this new technology. It is a trend that new technology is getting patients treated in their homes, or other remote locations instead of going to clinical settings. This is related to health policy because of the new technology transformation in the medical health system. The ability to use new technology to improve health care ” effectiveness, efficiency, equity, and continuity of care remains substantially conceptual.” (Abernethy et al., 2022). New technology can/may improve patient care quality and healthcare providers’ work efficiency. However, there are still a lot of questions healthcare policymakers need to consider, such as cost-effectiveness, new technology adoption, privacy consideration, etc. The reason I chose this article is that I am interested in how technology changes our health care, making an impact on our health policy, and the trends of health technology in the future. With the new technologies, its goal is to get patients out of the clinical settings. They are detecting patients’ symptoms and help patients to manage and care for themselves before they go to the doctor’s office or hospital. I would like to know if the new technology can be well utilized for other diseases, such as by detecting the disease process of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, or some other health conditions(HealthLeaders, n.d.). It will be a true evolution in the healthcare system and technology if the new technology can be applied to those medical areas.
