Please i need help on the below discussion post, i need to contribute, When I started nursing over twenty years ago, I can remember charting patients’ medication administration on paper MAR (Medication administration records). These colossal books were huge and sometimes they would have patients’ pictures in them and sometime not. I can remember horrible stories of medication errors happening on the floor of nurses coming from the agencies to fill in and patients with dementia stating their name to nurses and they were in the wrong room/bed, no picture in these colossal books. Now fast forward in time we use scanners compared to those in groceries stores to scan our patients arm band, a computer tells us the nurse if we have the right patient, at the right time, then we scan the medication, and the computer matches the medication with this patient. This is a huge advantage of a company device compared to “back in the day.” This system in technology is used as a safeguard to keep our patients safer and to decrease medication errors. The system tracks errors and saves time. The disadvantage in this system is that I have noticed myself that nurses have walked away from the EMR and have left this up for everyone to view SCIENCE HEALTH SCIENCE NURSING NR 443 nr 447
