Project: Writing a News Story You have probably watched a news broadcast a time or two in your lifetime — ABC, CBS and NBC (among others) all produce evening news programs that highlight the leading stories in the world for the day. If you watch more than one broadcast news program on any given day, you will likely see reports on many of the same stories — the economy, politics, threats to world peace, and health and medicine. You will notice a pattern of common steps when viewing the various news stories, most of which run between one and three minutes: All of them are introduced by the network’s news anchor. Most of them begin with a “head shot” of a reporter explaining the topic of the story, and then cut to … A brief video segment illustrating the topic, either with someone in the story speaking, or a voiceover (VO) from the reporter describing what the viewer sees.
