Respond thoughtfully and conscientiously to ONE classmate adding to the classmate’s discussion on the US/country comparison and reflection. Below is my classmate post containing: What policy(ies) exist in the US to facilitate access to health on the indicator of choice? How does the US compare to the country of comparison on the same indicator (scores)? Reflect on your own experience caring for an immigrant (citizen, documented, undocumented, or of vulnerable status). Was there an opportunity to provide additional health advocacy for the patient due to uncertainty or lack of knowledge of services available to the patient? If so, discuss how you handled this situation. India Utilizing the MIPEX to determine the overall health of the United States found it to have a score of 73 out of 100 in 2019. India, the country I have chosen to evaluate, had an overall score of 24 out of 100. Another indicator that was scored was equal opportunities. This looks at the comparison between opportunities of immigrants versus nationals. The United States scored 74 out of 100 while India scored 17 out of 100 in 2019. Access to health under the Trump administration fell 2 points. This showed that even legal immigrants were less secure and denied some basic rights. One change was that immigrants were to no longer be informed nor consulted on policy changes (MIPEX). I have not had the opportunity to take care of many immigrants in my nursing career. The only one that comes to mind was a mother form Mexico, she spoke no English and recently had a premature baby that was in NICU. She came to my clinic for wound care because her c-section dehisced. This area became infected, and she was uninsured. She needed indigent coverage for a wound vac, which we helped to facilitate. Due to her infection, she needed a wound wash that the hospital has that was not covered in the outpatient setting. We were desperate to get her wound healed quickly so she could take care of her baby. I got the rep of the company and they supplied some “samples’ of this wash for this patient. This cleared up her infection after one treatment and her wound healed exceptionally fast. Just because she was an immigrant that was uninsured, I made sure she got the care that anyone else would.
